Latin: Agrimonia eupatoria [Family: Rosaceae]
Agrimony synonyms include Agrimonia eupatoria, Church Steeples, Cocklebur, Common Agrimony, Garclive, Philanthropos, Sticklewort, Stickwort.
A herbaceous perennial growing to 4ft (1.2m) with aromatic rhizome, erect often hairy stems, pinnate and stipulate leaves, racemes of small star shaped yellow flowers in summer followed by fruits which are enclosed in a tough capsule with a circle of hooked spines. The taste is astringent and slightly bitter. It grows in Britain, Europe, Asia and North America on banks, field-sides, hedges, roadsides and waysides preferring sunny positions. The genus consists of 15 species.
The herb parts used include dried aerial parts and whole plant.
